Ingredients
  • 150ml heavy cream
  • 15g sugar
  • 200ml milk
  • 2 shots espresso
  • 1 tbsp black sesame powder

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the ingredients for the black sesame cream. Measure out 150ml of heavy cream and add 15g of sugar, which is about 10% of the cream’s volume.

Step 2

Measure precisely 15g of sugar.

Step 3

While a blender can speed things up, it makes it difficult to control the cream’s consistency, potentially leading to an overly thick cream. For best results at home, we recommend using a whisk or a hand mixer to achieve your desired texture.

Step 4

In your blender (or bowl for whisking), combine the heavy cream and sugar. Start blending. The key is to stop when the cream becomes very thick and holds its shape, but before it turns into butter. With a blender, this can happen very quickly, so watch carefully!

Step 5

Using a blender can sometimes result in a cream that’s too thick because it’s hard to gauge the consistency. If you’re using a hand mixer or a manual whisk, you have more control. You can whip the cream to your preferred thickness – from soft and billowy to stiff and decadently thick. Take your time and observe the changes.

Step 6

Have your black sesame powder ready. If you don’t have pre-ground powder, you can grind whole black sesame seeds in a mortar and pestle or a spice grinder for an even more aromatic flavor. Add the black sesame powder to the whipped cream and gently mix with a spatula or spoon until well combined. Ensure there are no lumps for a smooth black sesame cream.

Step 7

Start by filling your serving glass generously with ice cubes. This will keep your latte refreshingly cold.

Step 8

Pour 200ml of milk over the ice in the glass.

Step 9

Brew two shots of fresh espresso. (I used my Philips coffee machine 1200 for this step!)

Step 10

Carefully pour the freshly brewed espresso shots over the milk in the glass.

Step 11

The way the espresso and milk swirl together is always a beautiful sight. Take a moment to appreciate this visual blend before you stir.

Step 12

Finally, gently spoon the prepared black sesame cream on top of the espresso and milk mixture. For an extra touch, you can lightly dust with more black sesame powder. Your delicious and nutty black sesame latte is complete! If you prefer a warm drink, simply heat the milk before assembling.
