Rich & Tangy Tartar Sauce with Plenty of Onion (Perfect with Salmon)
How to Make a Delicious Tartar Sauce That Pairs Wonderfully with Salmon
This tartar sauce is packed with onion to cut through richness. Enjoy its vibrant flavor!
Ingredients
- 1/2 medium Onion, finely minced
- 1 Korean chili pepper (Cheongyang pepper), deseeded and finely minced
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 4 Tbsp Mayonnaise
- 1 tsp Lemon juice
- 1 tsp Wasabi (or salmon wasabi paste)
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing the star ingredients: the onion and Korean chili pepper. Mince the onion very finely. For the chili pepper, remove the seeds and then mince it finely as well. Finely mincing these ingredients will enhance the texture and flavor of your tartar sauce.
Step 2
In a bowl, combine the finely minced onion and Korean chili pepper. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar for a touch of sweetness, 1 teaspoon of lemon juice for brightness, and 1 teaspoon of wasabi (or the specified salmon wasabi paste) for a gentle kick. Finally, add 4 tablespoons of mayonnaise for creaminess and a pinch of black pepper for subtle aroma. Gently mix all the ingredients together until well combined, ensuring there are no lumps. Avoid over-mixing; a gentle stir is perfect.
Step 3
This easily prepared tartar sauce is wonderful served with freshly prepared dishes, especially salmon sashimi, which I personally enjoy it with. It effectively balances the richness of the salmon and elevates its flavor. It’s also incredibly delicious as a dip for fried foods like pork cutlets or chicken nuggets, or as a spread for sandwiches. Store it in the refrigerator and use it whenever you need a burst of flavor!
