Sausage and Potato Stew for Kids (Low Sodium)
Nutritious! Soft and Delicious Low-Sodium Sausage and Potato Stew Recipe
Today, we’ve made a delightful side dish for kids by adding sausages to fluffy mashed potatoes. This low-sodium sausage and potato stew is not spicy and has a sweet and savory flavor that will have your little ones finishing their rice in no time!
Ingredients- 2 potatoes
- 1/4 onion
- 6 mini sausages (or regular sausages)
- 150ml water
- 1 Tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or honey/corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
- A pinch of sesame seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the potatoes, onion, and sausages thoroughly. Peel the potatoes and onion, and prepare the sausages for cooking.
Step 2
Cut all the ingredients into bite-sized pieces that are easy for children to eat. Cube the potatoes into about 1.5 cm pieces, thinly slice the onion or cut it into small squares, and cut the sausages into appropriate sizes.
Step 3
After cutting the potatoes, soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes to remove excess starch. This step helps the potatoes maintain their shape without falling apart in the stew and gives them a firmer texture.
Step 4
Now, pour 150ml of water into a pot or a deep pan (wok). Add the prepared potatoes, onion, and sausages.
Step 5
Tip: If you add too many ingredients, it will take longer to stew, and the potatoes might become too mushy. Adjusting the ingredient amounts appropriately will help you achieve a delicious stew with perfectly tender potatoes.
Step 6
Turn on the stove to medium heat. Add 1 Tbsp of low-sodium soy sauce and 1 Tbsp of oligosaccharide. It’s best to keep the seasoning mild for children’s dishes. The oligosaccharide will add a subtle sweetness.
Step 7
Gently stir with a spatula to ensure the seasoning is evenly mixed. Maintain medium heat.
Step 8
With the lid off, let the stew simmer over medium-low heat until the liquid has reduced and is slightly thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom. Continue simmering until the potatoes are cooked and the sauce has well coated the ingredients.
Step 9
Once the liquid has mostly reduced and all the ingredients look glossy, turn off the heat. Drizzle with 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for a nutty aroma, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Your delicious sausage and potato stew is ready! Serve it warm and enjoy.
