Sausage Onigiri: Delicious Broccoli Brown Rice Balls
Enchanting Sausage Onigiri: Making Broccoli Brown Rice Extra Tasty
These onigiri (rice balls) use sausages as an appealing ‘lure’ to make healthy broccoli brown rice more enjoyable. The savory sausage flavor makes this a delightful dish for everyone.
Onigiri Ingredients- 2 bowls cooked glutinous brown rice
- 1 Tbsp plum syrup (maesilcheong)
- 1 sheet seasoned seaweed (gim)
- 1/4 head blanched broccoli
- 1 sausage
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare 2 bowls of warm glutinous brown rice. Add 1 tablespoon of plum syrup to the warm rice and mix gently with a spatula. The plum syrup will add a subtle sweetness and a pleasant aroma to the rice.
Step 2
Crumble 1 sheet of seasoned seaweed with your hands or cut it into small pieces. Blanch the broccoli briefly, then finely mince it. Combine the crumbled seaweed and minced broccoli with the seasoned rice, mixing everything thoroughly. The broccoli will be scattered throughout the rice, adding a lovely texture and color.
Step 3
Make 2-3 shallow cuts on the surface of the sausage. This helps prevent it from bursting while cooking and ensures it cooks evenly while looking appealing. Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and grill the sausage until it’s golden brown on both sides. Once cooked, slice the sausage into 2-3 cm thick pieces.
Step 4
Now it’s time to form the onigiri. Spread a piece of plastic wrap flat. Place a portion of the seasoned rice onto the wrap. Make a small indentation in the center of the rice and place a piece of the grilled sausage inside. Cover the sausage with the rice, forming it into a ball with your hands. Using the plastic wrap to shape the onigiri will result in neat and attractive rice balls. You can also use onigiri molds if you have them. These are perfect for lunchboxes or as a snack for kids!
