Savory and Nutty Bacon and Bean Sprout Stir-Fry
Kid-Friendly Bacon and Bean Sprout Stir-Fry Recipe
I often buy bacon in bulk and portion it out to use in various dishes. Today, I’ve stir-fried bacon with bean sprouts, a favorite among children, and it turned out wonderfully delicious! This dish is a delightful combination of savory bacon, aromatic garlic, and crisp bean sprouts, perfect for a quick and satisfying meal. It’s a dish that pairs exceptionally well with rice.
Main Ingredients- 10 strips thick-cut bacon
- 300g fresh bean sprouts
- 10 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
- 2 Tbsp cooking oil
- 1 Tbsp tuna extract (for umami)
- 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil
- Toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by preparing the bean sprouts. Rinse 300g of fresh bean sprouts thoroughly under cold running water. Remove any dirt or loose hulls. You can also trim off the very ends of the roots if they appear dirty, for a cleaner presentation.
Step 2
Now, let’s cook the bacon. Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat (no oil needed). Lay 10 strips of thick-cut bacon in a single layer. As the bacon cooks and renders its fat, use kitchen scissors to cut it into bite-sized pieces. Once nicely browned and crispy, remove the cooked bacon from the pan and set aside on a plate.
Step 3
In the same pan used for the bacon, add 2 tablespoons of cooking oil. Add the 10 cloves of garlic, which have been thinly sliced, and sauté them. Stir gently over medium-low heat until the garlic becomes fragrant and slightly translucent, infusing the oil with its aroma.
Step 4
Once the garlic turns translucent, add the prepared bean sprouts to the pan. Turn the heat up to high and stir-fry vigorously for a few moments. The goal is to coat the bean sprouts with the fragrant garlic-infused oil. Be careful not to overcook at this stage; they should remain crisp.
Step 5
To enhance the savory flavor, add 1 tablespoon of tuna extract to the pan. Continue to stir-fry quickly, ensuring the extract is evenly distributed and coats the bean sprouts.
Step 6
Return the reserved cooked bacon to the pan. Toss everything together gently for about 30 seconds, just enough to combine the ingredients. The key here is a quick stir-fry over high heat. Overcooking will cause the bean sprouts to lose their crispness and release excess water. As soon as everything is combined, turn off the heat.
Step 7
With the heat turned off, drizzle in 0.5 tablespoons of sesame oil for a nutty finish.
Step 8
Finally, sprinkle a generous amount of toasted sesame seeds over the stir-fry. Your delicious Bacon and Bean Sprout Stir-Fry is now ready!
Step 9
This dish is a big hit with kids and adults alike, offering a perfectly balanced savory, slightly salty, and nutty flavor. It’s a wonderful side dish that complements rice beautifully.
