Main Ingredients- 2 Potatoes (medium-sized)
- 1 Onion (medium-sized)
Braising Sauce- 1 cup Water (200ml)
- 4 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Corn Syrup (or Oligodang)
- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil (perilla oil)
- 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
- 1 cup Water (200ml)
- 4 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tbsp Corn Syrup (or Oligodang)
- 1 Tbsp Oyster Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Sesame Oil (perilla oil)
- 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the potatoes and onion for the dish. Peel the potatoes or wash them thoroughly.
Step 2
Peel the onion and slice it into bite-sized pieces, similar in size to the potatoes. Be careful not to slice them too thinly, as they might break apart when cooked.
Step 3
Cut the potatoes into bite-sized cubes (about 2-3 cm). Rinse the cut potatoes in cold water for 2-3 minutes to remove some starch, then drain well. This step helps prevent the potatoes from breaking apart during braising and allows the sauce to penetrate better.
Step 4
Drain the cut potatoes. (You can proceed directly from the previous step after draining the water).
Step 5
Place the sliced potatoes in a deep pan or pot. Add 1 cup of water, 4 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp corn syrup, and 1 Tbsp oyster sauce. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low heat and braise until the potatoes are cooked through. It’s important not to stir too frequently to prevent the potatoes from breaking. Covering the pot can speed up the cooking process.
Step 6
Check if the potatoes are becoming tender and the sauce is reducing to a glaze over medium-low heat. Insert a chopstick into a potato; if it goes in easily, they are cooked.
Step 7
When the potatoes are almost fully cooked, add the sliced onion to the pot and continue to braise them together. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the onions become translucent and tender.
Step 8
Just before turning off the heat, stir in 1 Tbsp of perilla oil and 1 Tbsp of toasted sesame seeds. This adds a nutty aroma and enhances the flavor. Serve hot over rice!
