- Fine Gochugaru (Korean chili powder) 1 Tbsp
- Soy Sauce 1 Tbsp
- Mirin (or cooking sake) 1.5 Tbsp
- Plum Extract 1 Tbsp
- Minced Garlic 1 Tbsp
- Ginger Powder 1/2 tsp
- Gochujang (Korean chili paste) 1.5 Tbsp
- Fine Gochugaru (Korean chili powder) 1 Tbsp
- Soy Sauce 1 Tbsp
- Mirin (or cooking sake) 1.5 Tbsp
- Plum Extract 1 Tbsp
- Minced Garlic 1 Tbsp
- Ginger Powder 1/2 tsp
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
The 1kg order arrived as two large sea eels. They were cleaned and sent to ensure freshness, packed securely with ice. Rinse the received eel under cold running water before preparation.
Step 2
To make the delicious sauce, combine 1.5 Tbsp Gochujang, 1 Tbsp fine Gochugaru, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1.5 Tbsp mirin, 1 Tbsp plum extract, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, and 1/2 tsp ginger powder in a bowl. Mix them well until you have a smooth, thick sauce.
Step 3
When grilling the eel, it’s common to start with the flesh side. Scoring the flesh lightly before grilling can help prevent the eel from curling and ensure it cooks evenly. (Alternatively, you can grill it without scoring, based on your preference.)
Step 4
Be careful as the sauce can burn easily due to the Gochujang. Once the eel is partially cooked, brush the prepared sauce evenly over both sides and continue grilling. Adjust the heat to prevent burning and achieve a glossy finish. Your delicious grilled sea eel is now ready!
