Savory Pork Belly Tteokbokki: A Rich and Delicious Recipe
How to Make Flavorful Pork Belly Tteokbokki at Home
Found some rice cake soup cakes (tteokguk tteok) and meat at home, so I decided to make tteokbokki! This pork belly tteokbokki is even more delicious than regular tteokbokki because of the added meat.
Main Ingredients- Pork belly, thinly sliced (daepae samgyeopsal) – a little (approx. 150-200g)
- Rice cake soup cakes or tteokbokki rice cakes – 1 handful (approx. 200g)
- Scallions (green onions) – 1 to 2 stalks
Seasoning Ingredients- Gochujang (Korean chili paste) – 2 Tbsp
- Minced garlic – 1 Tbsp
- Sugar – 2 Tbsp
- Dashida (Korean beef bouillon powder) – 1 Tbsp
- Water – 1 cup (200ml)
- Gochujang (Korean chili paste) – 2 Tbsp
- Minced garlic – 1 Tbsp
- Sugar – 2 Tbsp
- Dashida (Korean beef bouillon powder) – 1 Tbsp
- Water – 1 cup (200ml)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the scallions thoroughly and slice them lengthwise into long pieces, keeping both the white and green parts. Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the sliced scallions and sauté them gently to release their fragrant aroma. Cook until the scallions turn translucent and tender.
Step 2
Once the scallions are partially cooked, add the thinly sliced pork belly to the pan and stir-fry together. Pork belly cooks quickly, so be careful not to burn it. Sauté until the meat is golden brown and has rendered some of its fat. The savory pork fat will blend with the scallions, adding a deeper flavor to the tteokbokki sauce.
Step 3
When the pork belly is almost cooked through, add the prepared fish cakes and stir-fry them together for about a minute. Fish cakes add umami and a pleasant chewy texture to the tteokbokki. Stir until the fish cakes are slightly softened.
Step 4
Now it’s time to add all the seasoning ingredients. Combine 2 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 2 Tbsp sugar, and 1 Tbsp Dashida. Pour in 1 cup (200ml) of water. Mix everything well with a spoon or spatula, ensuring the sauce coats the pork, scallions, and fish cakes evenly. Bring the sauce to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 5
Finally, add the rice cakes and stir them into the sauce. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the rice cakes are soft and the sauce has thickened slightly. Once the tteokbokki is almost ready, you can sprinkle a generous amount of mozzarella cheese on top and cover the pan or let it melt over low heat for an even richer flavor. Serve hot and enjoy your delicious pork belly tteokbokki!
