- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)

- A little sesame seeds
- A little Cheongyang chili pepper (optional)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 120ml water
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 Tbsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp perilla oil (deulgireum)
- A little sesame seeds
- A little Cheongyang chili pepper (optional)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the main ingredients: 6 sheets of fish cake, 1/2 onion, and a bit of green onion. It’s a good idea to blanch the fish cakes briefly in hot water to remove any impurities and then rinse them under cold water. This step helps to achieve a chewier texture and a cleaner taste.
Step 2
Chop the prepared ingredients into bite-sized pieces. Slice the onion into strips and the green onion diagonally. You can also cut the fish cakes into triangles or strips, according to your preference.
Step 3
Heat about 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. Add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
Step 4
Once the garlic is fragrant, add the sliced onion to the pan. Stir-fry the onion over medium heat until it becomes translucent. Sautéing the onion thoroughly will enhance its natural sweetness.
Step 5
When the onions are softened, add the cut fish cakes to the pan. Stir-fry them together with the onions for about 1-2 minutes.
Step 6
Next, pour in 120ml of water. Adding a little water helps to keep the fish cakes moist and prevents them from becoming tough, allowing them to absorb the sauce better for a tender texture.
Step 7
Now it’s time to season the dish. Start by adding 2 tablespoons of soy sauce. You can adjust the amount of soy sauce depending on the type of fish cake you use and your personal taste.
Step 8
Add 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce for an extra layer of savory flavor. Oyster sauce is a wonderful ingredient that really elevates the overall taste of the dish.
Step 9
Add 1 tablespoon of oligosaccharide (or a similar sweetener like corn syrup) for sweetness. This will add a nice sheen and a sweet taste that children will especially enjoy.
Step 10
If you like a bit of spice, finely chop and add about 1/2 of a Cheongyang chili pepper. You can adjust the amount or omit it entirely based on your preference. Adding chili peppers helps to cut through any richness and makes the dish even more delicious.
Step 11
Finally, stir in 1 tablespoon of perilla oil for a nutty aroma and flavor. It’s best to add perilla oil just before turning off the heat to preserve its fragrance.
Step 12
Continue to stir-fry everything together for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce has slightly reduced and coats the ingredients. Once done, transfer the soy sauce fish cake stir-fry to a serving dish and sprinkle with sesame seeds. This dish, with its perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors and a hint of spice, is fantastic as a side dish or as a filling for kimbap! Enjoy your delicious meal!
