Main Ingredients

  • 2 bowls of warm rice (approx. 400g)
  • 200g pork for grilling (e.g., pork belly, pork neck, your preference)
  • 4 stalks of green onion
  • 6 cloves garlic
  • 1/2 medium onion
  • 1.5-2 Tbsp ssamjang (Korean soybean paste)
  • 1 handful of crumbled seaweed (garnish)

Seasoning & Marinade

  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce or cooking wine (for marinating pork)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables. Slice the green onions into approximately 3cm lengths. Dice or julienne the onion into similar lengths. Thinly slice the garlic cloves.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the pork into small, bite-sized pieces (about 1-2cm). In a bowl, combine the pork with 2 Tbsp soy sauce (or cooking wine), a pinch of salt, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for about 5-10 minutes for a more tender and flavorful result.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat 1-2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the marinated pork and sliced garlic. Stir-fry until the garlic is fragrant and the pork is golden brown and about half-cooked. Be careful not to burn the pork over high heat.

Step 3

Step 4

When the pork is halfway cooked, add the sliced onion and continue to stir-fry until the onion becomes slightly translucent. Then, add the warm rice to the pan. Use a spatula to gently break apart the rice and mix it with the other ingredients, ensuring not to mash the grains.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, it’s time to add the star ingredient: ssamjang! Add 1.5-2 Tbsp of ssamjang and stir-fry thoroughly to ensure the paste is evenly distributed throughout the rice and ingredients. Cook until well combined and seasoned. Adjust the amount of ssamjang based on your preference for saltiness; use 2 Tbsp for a saltier taste or start with 1.5 Tbsp for a milder flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, add the sliced green onions and mix gently. The crisp texture and fresh aroma of the green onions will enhance the flavor of the fried rice. Once everything is well combined, turn off the heat.

Step 6

Step 7

Serve the finished ssamjang fried rice into bowls. Garnish generously with crumbled seaweed for a nutty and delicious finish. Enjoy it hot!
