Ingredients

  • 500g Firm Tofu (about 1 block)
  • 5 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 3 Tbsp Dried Kelp and Anchovy Broth (or water)
  • 2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds
  • 8 Tbsp Scallions, finely chopped

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, slice the 500g block of tofu into approximately 1cm thick pieces. It’s best to keep them at this thickness so they don’t break apart too easily during cooking.

Step 1

Step 2

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add cooking oil. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the tofu slices in the pan. Pan-fry the tofu until both sides are golden brown and slightly firm.

Step 2

Step 3

Now, let’s prepare the delicious braising sauce. In a small bowl, add 5 tablespoons of soy sauce.

Step 3

Step 4

Next, add 3 tablespoons of dried kelp and anchovy broth for added umami. If you don’t have this broth, regular water can be used as a substitute.

Step 4

Step 5

Add the 8 tablespoons of finely chopped scallions that you prepared earlier to the bowl. The fresh aroma of the scallions will infuse the sauce and enhance its flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

Finally, stir in 2 tablespoons of sesame oil for a nutty aroma and 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds for texture and flavor. Mix everything together well to create the savory scallion sauce.

Step 6

Step 7

Arrange the golden-brown pan-fried tofu slices neatly in the pan. Reduce the heat to the lowest setting on your stove. This low heat is crucial to allow the tofu to absorb the sauce without burning.

Step 7

Step 8

Evenly spoon the prepared scallion soy sauce mixture over the tofu slices. Ensure that the sauce coats all the pieces for consistent flavor.
