How to Make Seaweed Bibimbap with Chef Baek Jong-won’s Signature Gochujang Sauce
Seaweed bibimbap is a delightful and light meal, perfect for a healthy diet. Today, we’re making it with a special gochujang sauce inspired by Chef Baek Jong-won, adding a vibrant, tangy kick to the fresh sea vegetables and rice.
Main Ingredients
- 2 handfuls of seaweed (salted, rehydrated)
- 1 bowl of cooked rice
- 1 fresh egg
- A drizzle of sesame oil
Baek Jong-won’s Special Gochujang Sauce
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Vinegar
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 0.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 0.5 tsp Minced garlic
- 2 pinches Toasted sesame seeds
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame oil
- 1.5 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp Vinegar
- 0.5 Tbsp Sugar
- 0.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 0.5 tsp Minced garlic
- 2 pinches Toasted sesame seeds
- 1/2 Tbsp Sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, soak the salted seaweed in water for at least 10 minutes to remove excess saltiness. This step is crucial for enjoying the fresh flavor of the sea vegetables.
Step 2
In a small bowl, combine the ingredients for the Baek Jong-won gochujang sauce: 1.5 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp vinegar, 0.5 Tbsp sugar, 0.5 Tbsp gochugaru, 0.5 tsp minced garlic, and 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil. (The sesame seeds will be added later).
Step 3
Whisk all the sauce ingredients together thoroughly until well combined. You’ll have a perfectly balanced, tangy, and slightly spicy gochujang sauce.
Step 4
Prepare a sunny-side-up egg, ensuring the yolk is still runny. This will add a wonderful richness when mixed into the bibimbap.
Step 5
After soaking, rinse the seaweed thoroughly under cold running water to ensure all salt has been washed away. This ensures a clean and fresh taste.
Step 6
Place the warm cooked rice into a serving bowl. Generously top the rice with the drained seaweed. Spoon a good amount (about 1-2 tablespoons, or to your taste) of the prepared Baek Jong-won gochujang sauce over the seaweed.
Step 7
Gently place the sunny-side-up egg on top of the bibimbap. Drizzle a little sesame oil over everything for extra aroma and flavor. Sprinkle the toasted sesame seeds on top.
Step 8
Your delicious and light Seaweed Bibimbap is now ready to be enjoyed! Mix everything together with your spoon or chopsticks and savor the fresh taste of the sea combined with the vibrant sauce.
