Main Ingredients
  • 150g cocktail shrimp, thawed and patted dry
  • 1/4 onion, finely diced
  • 1/4 green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp cooking oil
  • 150g cooked rice, warm

Seasoning Sauce
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thaw the cocktail shrimp by soaking them in cold water until fully defrosted. Once thawed, thoroughly pat them dry with paper towels. This is crucial to prevent splattering and ensure a delicious outcome.

Step 2

Season the thawed and dried shrimp with a pinch of black pepper. This step helps to remove any potential ‘fishy’ odor and enhances the overall flavor profile.

Step 3

Finely dice 1/4 of an onion. Diced onions will release their natural sweetness as they cook, adding a lovely depth of flavor to the dish.

Step 4

Similarly, finely dice 1/4 of a green bell pepper. The crisp texture and fresh aroma of the bell pepper will add a vibrant element to your Shrimp Box.

Step 5

In a small bowl, whisk together 1 Tbsp minced garlic, 1 Tbsp water, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp vinegar, 1/2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 Tbsp ketchup, and 1 Tbsp gochujang. Mix well to create a balanced and flavorful sauce that hits sweet, sour, savory, and spicy notes.

Step 6

Now, let’s start cooking. Heat 1 Tbsp of butter and 1 Tbsp of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium-low heat. The butter adds a wonderful richness and aroma.

Step 7

Once the pan is hot, add the diced onions and green bell peppers. Stir-fry over high heat until the vegetables are slightly softened but still retain a bit of crispness. This quick sautéing preserves their texture.

Step 8

When the vegetables are tender-crisp, add the seasoned shrimp to the pan. Continue to stir-fry over high heat. Shrimp cook very quickly; cook them only until they turn pink and opaque, usually just a couple of minutes, to avoid them becoming tough.

Step 9

As soon as the shrimp are pink, pour in the prepared sauce. Stir-fry everything together over high heat until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the shrimp and vegetables evenly. Keep stirring to prevent the sauce from burning.

Step 10

Serve the delicious shrimp and vegetable mixture over a bed of warm rice. Your Shrimp Box is now ready to enjoy! For an extra touch, you can garnish with some seaweed flakes or sesame seeds.
