Main Ingredients

  • 1 block Firm Tofu (approx. 300-400g)
  • 400ml Water
  • 2/3 tsp Sea Salt (approx. 3-4g)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Prepare one block of fresh firm tofu. You can use it directly from the refrigerator.

Step 1

Step 2

Cut the tofu block in half horizontally, then slice it into bite-sized pieces. For easy handling, cut them into approximately 2-3 cm cubes so you can pick them up one by one. Be careful not to slice them too thinly, as they might break apart.

Step 2

Step 3

Gently tilt the pot and arrange the sliced tofu pieces neatly in a single layer, without overlapping. Handle the tofu carefully to prevent it from crumbling.

Step 3

Step 4

Pour in 400ml of clean water, ensuring the tofu is covered.

Step 4

Step 5

Add 2/3 teaspoon of sea salt. (This is based on a measuring spoon; you can adjust the saltiness to your preference. It’s recommended to start with a little less and add more to taste. The photo might show a bit more salt, so please stick to the 2/3 teaspoon measurement.)

Step 5

Step 6

Bring the water to a boil over medium heat, then immediately reduce the heat to low once it starts simmering.

Step 6

Step 7

Once the water is simmering, turn the heat to low and let it cook gently for 10 minutes. Boiling at a high heat for too long can make the tofu firm, so simmering it gently on low heat is key.

Step 7

Step 8

Taste the warm, boiled tofu, perhaps with a spoonful of the broth. The subtle saltiness of the broth and the soft texture of the tofu create a wonderful harmony. It’s delicious enjoyed just as it is.

Step 8

Step 9

Alternatively, for a richer flavor, serve it with a spicy and sweet gochujang (Korean chili paste) dipping sauce. The soft tofu and the savory sauce make a fantastic combination.
