Main Ingredients

  • 1 pack silken tofu (approx. 350g)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 bowl warm cooked rice
  • 1/2 green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil or cooking oil
  • A pinch of toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)

Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp oyster sauce

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, in a small bowl, combine 2 Tbsp soy sauce and 1 Tbsp oyster sauce. Mix well to create a delicious sauce. This sauce is key to the dish’s flavor, so preparing it in advance will make cooking much smoother.

Step 1

Step 2

Wash the green onion and finely chop it into about 0.5 cm thick pieces, using both the white and green parts. The aromatic flavor of the green onion will enhance the taste of the dish.

Step 2

Step 3

Crack the 2 eggs into a clean bowl. Gently beat them with a fork or chopsticks until the yolks and whites are well combined. You don’t need to beat them vigorously.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a pan over medium heat and add 2 Tbsp of olive oil. Add the chopped green onion and 1 Tbsp of minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant, releasing their aroma. Be careful not to burn them.

Step 4

Step 5

Pour the 1 pack of silken tofu into the pan with the sautéed green onion and garlic. Use a spoon or spatula to gently break the tofu into large, bite-sized pieces (2-3 chunks). Avoid mashing it too finely to maintain a pleasant texture.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the silken tofu is lightly cooked, carefully pour the beaten egg mixture over the tofu. The eggs will cook and naturally meld with the tofu.

Step 6

Step 7

Now, drizzle the prepared sauce (2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 Tbsp oyster sauce) evenly over the silken tofu and eggs. This is an important step to ensure the flavors are well distributed.

Step 7

Step 8

Gently stir and cook with a spatula or spoon, making sure the silken tofu, eggs, and sauce are evenly mixed and not clumping. A flavorful sauce for the rice bowl will form. Cooking over medium-low heat is recommended over high heat.

Step 8

Step 9

Continue to cook. The silken tofu will release its own moisture, creating a gentle simmer. Turn off the heat when it reaches your desired consistency. If you prefer a saucier dish, cook for a shorter time; if you like it drier, cook longer to evaporate more moisture.

Step 9

Step 10

Place 1 bowl of warm cooked rice into a serving bowl. If the rice is very hot, the tofu might break apart, so letting it cool slightly before serving is also an option.

Step 10

Step 11

Spoon the freshly cooked, warm silken tofu and egg mixture generously over the rice. A gentle scoop will create an appealing presentation. Finally, drizzle 1/2 Tbsp of sesame oil in a circular motion.

Step 11

Step 12

For the final touch, sprinkle a pinch of toasted sesame seeds over the top. Your delicious Silken Tofu and Egg Rice Bowl is ready! Enjoy it immediately while it’s warm for the best taste.
