Ingredients- 1 package silken tofu (choose a soft variety)
- 2 pieces chicken breast (approx. 200g, cut into bite-sized pieces)
- 1/2 onion (finely chopped or thinly sliced)
- 1/3 zucchini (cut into half-moons or cubes)
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or your favorite melting cheese)
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 cup tomato sauce (approx. 200ml, use your preferred brand)
- 1/2 cup water (approx. 100ml, to adjust sauce consistency)
- 1/3 Tbsp salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/3 Tbsp black pepper (freshly ground is best for aroma)
- A pinch of dried parsley (for garnish and flavor)
- A drizzle of olive oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare your vegetables and chicken. Thinly slice or finely chop the onion. Cut the zucchini into half-moons or bite-sized cubes. Slice the chicken breast into 2-3cm pieces. Ensure the chicken pieces are not too large to ensure even cooking.
Step 2
Carefully remove the silken tofu from its packaging. Cut it into thick, substantial pieces, about 3cm thick. Avoid cutting it too small, as it may break apart during cooking.
Step 3
Heat a skillet or wok over medium-low heat and add a generous drizzle of olive oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Then, add the chopped onion and zucchini. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes translucent and tender, allowing the natural sweetness of the vegetables to develop. This step is crucial for a richer flavor.
Step 4
Once the vegetables are softened, add the cut chicken breast to the pan. Sauté with the vegetables until the chicken is no longer pink on the outside. Pour in the tomato sauce and water, stirring to combine everything. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low, and let it cook for about 5 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Step 5
Taste the sauce and season with salt and black pepper. Remember that the cheese will add some saltiness, so season cautiously. Adjust the seasoning as needed.
Step 6
Arrange the silken tofu pieces gently over the sauce in the pan. Sprinkle the shredded cheese generously over the tofu and sauce. Don’t be shy with the cheese – it makes the dish extra delicious!
Step 7
Cover the pan with a lid or simply let it cook uncovered over low heat for another 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and bubbly. Garnish with a pinch of dried parsley for a pop of color and fresh flavor. Serve your delicious Silken Tofu ‘Hell’ immediately while it’s hot and cheesy!
