Simple and Delicious Braised Potatoes
Learn How to Make ‘Super Simple Braised Potatoes’ That Just Need Simmering

I have so many potatoes at home! I decided to make some braised potatoes to use them up. ㅎ This recipe is incredibly simple – you just need to simmer everything. They turn out wonderfully sweet and savory, making them a perfect side dish for any meal. The soft texture of the potatoes is delightful, and the flavor is truly comforting. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy a staple ingredient!
Main Ingredients- 3-4 potatoes (medium-sized)
- 1/2 onion (medium-sized)
Braising Sauce- 1/2 paper cup soy sauce
- 1/3 paper cup sugar
- 2 paper cups water
- 1/2 paper cup soy sauce
- 1/3 paper cup sugar
- 2 paper cups water
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the potatoes thoroughly and peel them. Then, cut them into bite-sized cubes, about 2-3 cm. It’s important to cut them into a suitable size so they don’t fall apart when cooking. Slice the onion into similar-sized pieces.

Step 2
Place the cut potatoes into a wide pan or pot. Pour in 2 paper cups of water, ensuring the potatoes are mostly submerged. You can adjust the amount of water depending on the size of your potatoes and the depth of your pot.

Step 3
Next, measure out 1/2 paper cup of soy sauce and add it to the pot. Soy sauce is crucial for giving the potatoes their color and adding a savory depth of flavor.

Step 4
Then, measure about 1/3 paper cup of sugar and add it. It’s best to use slightly less sugar than soy sauce to achieve a balanced sweet and salty taste. If you prefer it sweeter, you can add a little more sugar.

Step 5
Stir gently with a spatula to combine the ingredients. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pot, and let it simmer until the potatoes are fully cooked. Remember to stir occasionally to prevent sticking. Add the sliced onion at this stage for extra flavor.

Step 6
When the sauce has reduced to a nice glaze and the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork, turn off the heat and let it cool slightly. While delicious immediately, allowing it to cool a bit helps the flavors meld even further into the potatoes, creating a richer taste.

Step 7
Transfer the finished braised potatoes to a serving dish. For an extra touch, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top. This simple dish is now complete! Enjoy it with a warm bowl of rice. It’s a truly easy and satisfying side dish.
