First, prepare all your ingredients. You’ll need 4 sheets of fish cake, 500ml of water, and the liquid and dried soup base packets for udon. If you don’t have the udon soup base, you can easily season the broth with soy sauce and salt to your liking. Have skewers or wooden chopsticks ready, as they make it easy to serve the fish cakes neatly.

Now, let’s skewer the fish cakes. For thicker fish cakes, cut them lengthwise in half and thread them onto the skewer or chopstick. For thinner fish cakes, simply fold them in half and skewer them without cutting. This helps the fish cakes maintain their shape and prevents them from falling apart in the soup.

Pour 500ml of water into a pot and bring it to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling vigorously, add the liquid udon soup base and simmer for another 1-2 minutes to infuse the broth with flavor. Adjust the amount of soup base according to the product’s instructions or your taste. If you’re using soy sauce and salt, this is the time to season and taste.
