Perfect as a side dish for rice or a tempting appetizer, this super simple chili shrimp is a must-try!
Main Ingredients- 12 large frozen shrimp
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp butter
- Pinch of black pepper
- Pinch of parsley flakes
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s start by making the chili sauce, which is key to the flavor of your chili shrimp. In a bowl, combine 2 Tbsp ketchup, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp vinegar, and 1 Tbsp soy sauce. Mix well until smooth. This sauce will provide the delightful sweet and sour notes.
Step 2
If using frozen shrimp, rinse them lightly under cold water to thaw. Then, pat them thoroughly dry with paper towels. It’s crucial to remove excess moisture, as it can cause oil splatter during cooking and prevent the sauce from adhering properly.
Step 3
Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and stir-fry until fragrant and lightly golden. Be careful not to burn the garlic; slowly cooking it will enhance its aroma and flavor.
Step 4
Once the garlic is aromatic and golden, add the prepared shrimp to the pan and stir-fry over medium heat. Shrimp cook quickly, so avoid overcooking. (While 12 shrimp are sufficient, you can easily use up to 20 for a more generous portion.)
Step 5
As the shrimp turn a vibrant pink and are almost cooked through, pour in the pre-made chili sauce. Stir well to ensure the sauce evenly coats each shrimp.
Step 6
As the sauce begins to thicken, add 1 Tbsp of water to the pan. This will help adjust the sauce’s consistency and give it a glossy finish. Stir-fry quickly to combine everything.
Step 7
Finally, add 1 Tbsp of butter to the pan. Gently stir-fry until the butter melts and is incorporated into the sauce and shrimp, adding a rich, buttery aroma and flavor.
Step 8
For an extra layer of flavor, add a pinch of black pepper. Sprinkle it over the shrimp and give it a final toss.
Step 9
To finish, sprinkle a pinch of parsley flakes over the chili shrimp for a touch of color and visual appeal. Serve immediately while warm for the best taste!
