Ingredients

  • 10 small bags of assorted nuts (choose your favorites)
  • 3 Tbsp (approx. 45ml) oligosaccharide

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

The ingredients needed for these energy bars are wonderfully simple: nuts and oligosaccharide. While there’s no strict rule on the total amount of nuts, the recipe typically uses about 10 small bags. Feel free to adjust the quantity based on your preference or how many bars you want to make. Mixing various nuts like almonds, walnuts, and cashews will create a richer flavor profile.

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s prepare the nuts. Place your chosen nuts into a sturdy zip-top bag. Then, crush the nuts inside the bag. You can use the bottom of a pot, a rolling pin, or even a sturdy bottle to break them down. The goal is just to break them into smaller pieces – any method that works to crush them will do! This step can also be quite satisfying and act as a stress reliever.

Step 2

Step 3

Transfer the crushed nuts to a frying pan and toast them over low heat. It’s important to toast them until a nutty, aromatic fragrance is released. Be careful not to burn them; toasting slowly over gentle heat will enhance their natural flavor.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the nuts start releasing their savory aroma, add the oligosaccharide and mix well. The recipe suggests drizzling it in about three times, but it’s crucial to control the amount. Adding too much oligosaccharide can make the finished energy bars hard when set. Stir with a spatula to ensure the oligosaccharide evenly coats all the nuts.

Step 4

Step 5

Next, prepare a container to set the energy bars. Choose a rectangular container or food storage box, and line the bottom with plastic wrap. Lining the container makes it much easier to remove the energy bars once they’ve set, and also helps them maintain a neat shape.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour the nut mixture from the pan into the prepared container, over the plastic wrap. Press the mixture down firmly with a spatula or your hands to create a flat, compact layer. Place the container in the refrigerator and let it set for at least one hour. Once fully set, you can lift the entire block out using the plastic wrap, cut it into your desired bar sizes, and enjoy your delicious homemade energy bars!
