Simple Jajangmyeon Recipe Without Pork (with My Daughter)

My siblings love Jajangmyeon, and I wanted to make it for them myself instead of buying it. So, I made it together with my lovely daughter, who, like me, enjoys cooking. ♥

  • Occasion : Quick & Easy
  • Cooking : Boil / Simmer
  • Servings : 3 servings

Main Ingredients

  • 1 small can of Spam
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1/3 Carrot
  • 1/2 can of canned corn
  • 1/3 Zucchini
  • 1 handful of Cabbage
  • 3 servings of frozen Udon noodles

Sauce Ingredients

  • 500ml Water
  • 4 Tbsp Cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the Ottogi Jajang powder, which is key to the deliciousness of this Jajangmyeon. Using a store-bought Jajang mix makes creating a tasty Jajang sauce much easier.

Step 1

Step 2

Open the canned corn. Drain half of the corn kernels in a sieve to remove excess water. This step helps make the Jajang sauce cleaner and more flavorful.

Step 2

Step 3

Finely chop all the prepared vegetables: onion, carrot, zucchini, and cabbage. Cutting them very small is especially good for children, making the dish more appealing. This time, I substituted Spam for the usual pork. It resulted in a cleaner, lighter, and more refreshing taste than expected! ^^

Step 3

Step 4

Now, let’s make the Jajang sauce! Heat 4 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pot. Add all the chopped vegetables except the corn and stir-fry over medium heat. Once the onions become translucent, add 500ml of water and the drained corn. Bring to a boil, then increase the heat to high. Gradually add the Jajang powder while stirring continuously to prevent lumps.

Step 4

Step 5

Once the Jajang sauce comes to a rolling boil, reduce the heat to medium-low. Let it simmer for about 5 more minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly as if it’s being reduced. In the meantime, prepare the frozen Udon noodles. Boil water in a pot and cook the Udon noodles for exactly 5 minutes. Rinsing them under cold water after cooking will give them a wonderfully chewy texture.

Step 5

Step 6

Place the cooked Udon noodles in a bowl and generously ladle the hot Jajang sauce over them. This completes your homemade Jajangmyeon! It’s incredibly delicious even without meat. It’s truly the best! (세젤맛)

Step 7

Take some time on the weekend to make this with your children! It’s a fun activity. I made it with my daughter. ^^
