Simple & Savory Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl (Donkatsu Don)
Budget-Friendly Dorm/Solo Cooking: Delicious Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl
An incredibly easy rice bowl using pre-made pork cutlets. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal!
Main Ingredients- 1 Onion (medium size)
- 1 Pre-made Pork Cutlet
- 210g Cooked Rice (warm)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel the onion and slice it thinly into strips about 0.5cm thick. Slicing the onion uniformly will help it cook evenly and improve the texture.
Step 2
Heat a non-stick pan over medium-low heat with a tiny amount of cooking oil, or even without oil. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they become translucent. Once the onions start to soften, add the soy sauce and sugar. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions turn a nice golden brown and are tender. Be careful not to burn them. This process deepens the sweet and savory flavor of the onions. If the sauce seems too thick, you can add about 2 tablespoons of water to reach your desired consistency.
Step 3
Prepare the pork cutlet according to the package instructions, frying it until golden brown and crispy. Alternatively, you can use an air fryer or pan-fry it. Ensuring the oil is at the right temperature for frying will result in a juicy interior and a perfectly crisp exterior.
Step 4
Serve the warm rice in a bowl. Slice the crispy pork cutlet into bite-sized pieces and arrange it on top of the rice. Generously spoon the savory and sweet sautéed onions and their sauce over the pork cutlet and rice. Your delicious pork cutlet rice bowl is now complete! You can garnish with seaweed flakes or sesame seeds if desired.
