Easy & Delicious SPAM Kimchi Stew (No Pork!): A Recipe You’ll Crave Weekly
On busy days, a simple yet incredibly delicious home-cooked meal is exactly what you need! Today, I’m sharing a recipe for Kimchi Stew made with SPAM instead of pork, perfect for quick preparation. Using SPAM makes it so easy, and the flavor is so satisfying that I find myself making it at least once a week! If you’re struggling with dinner ideas every evening, this SPAM Kimchi Stew is a perfect choice. The combination of kimchi and SPAM is a guaranteed winner, easily making you devour a bowl of rice. A key advantage of this stew is the wonderfully tender texture of the kimchi.
Ingredients- SPAM 200g (1 can)
- Well-fermented Kimchi (aged) 1/2 head
- Concentrated Broth Cube 1 piece
- Water 3 cups
- Sugar 0.5 Tbsp
- Green Onion, a small amount
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by placing half of your fermented kimchi (divided into two portions) into a pot. For dishes with many ingredients like Kimchi Stew, it’s best to use a pot that distributes heat evenly, ensuring everything cooks uniformly without burning.
Step 2
Arrange the SPAM, cut into desired pieces, neatly on top of the kimchi. The savory and slightly salty taste of SPAM blends wonderfully with the kimchi, creating a fantastic flavor profile.
Step 3
Now, sprinkle 0.5 tablespoons of sugar evenly over the ingredients. If your kimchi is particularly sour, consider adding a little more sugar to balance the flavors. The sweetness will gently mellow out the tanginess.
Step 4
Pour in 3 cups of water and add 1 concentrated broth cube for an extra layer of savory depth. This cube simplifies the broth-making process, delivering rich flavor effortlessly.
Step 5
Begin by bringing the stew to a boil over medium-high heat with the lid off. Once it starts boiling, cover the pot with the lid and reduce the heat to medium-low. Since we’re using SPAM instead of pork, simmer gently for about 30 minutes. This allows the SPAM’s savory essence to infuse into the kimchi. Afterward, turn off the heat and let it rest (steam) for an additional 10-20 minutes for an even more tender and deeply flavored stew.
Step 6
Finally, add the chopped green onions and bring it back to a quick boil over medium-high heat. The fresh, clean aroma of the green onions will further enhance the overall flavor of the Kimchi Stew. Your delicious SPAM Kimchi Stew is now ready to be enjoyed with a bowl of rice!
