Craving something special while on a diet? Omit the seasoning sauce from store-bought fried tofu pockets, and fill them with mashed tofu and tuna instead of rice for a protein-packed diet meal! It’s a healthy and satisfying option.
Ingredients- 1 block firm tofu (approx. 300-400g)
- 1 can tuna, drained of oil
- 1 pack fried tofu pockets (omit seasoning sauce)
- 1 packet roasted seasoned sesame seeds (included in store-bought kit)
- Pinch of salt (to taste)
- Pinch of black pepper (to taste)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Start by preparing the firm tofu. Lightly pat it dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Then, use the side of a knife or a fork to mash the tofu into a soft, lump-free consistency. It’s nice to leave a little texture rather than making it completely smooth.
Step 2
Drain the oil completely from the canned tuna using a sieve. You can also gently press it with your hands to remove as much oil as possible. Any remaining oil might make the sushi taste greasy, so be thorough.
Step 3
Place the mashed tofu and the drained tuna into a bowl. Add the roasted seasoned sesame seeds from the store-bought fried tofu pocket kit. Importantly, skip the sweet seasoning sauce, as it often contains a lot of sugar, for a healthier option.
Step 4
Using a spatula or spoon, mix the tofu, tuna, and sesame seeds thoroughly until well combined. Stir gently to ensure the ingredients are evenly distributed and not clumpy.
Step 5
The moisture from the mashed tofu will adequately balance the texture of the drained tuna. In fact, if you remove too much moisture from the tofu, the mixture can become dry. Therefore, it’s crucial to retain the natural moisture of the mashed tofu for a wonderfully soft and tender result.
Step 6
The fried tofu pockets are usually packed in liquid. Gently squeeze out the excess liquid by hand. Be careful not to squeeze too hard, as the tofu pockets can tear easily. This step is key to getting the right texture.
Step 7
Carefully open each fried tofu pocket, being mindful not to tear them. Then, generously fill each pocket with the prepared tofu and tuna mixture. Once filled, your delicious and nutritious Tofu Fried Tofu Pocket Sushi is ready to be enjoyed! Make them bite-sized for easy eating.
