Main Ingredients

  • Dried seaweed 25g
  • Canned tuna 1 can (approx. 150g)

Seasoning (Tablespoon Measurement)

  • Soup soy sauce 1 Tbsp
  • Fish sauce concentrate 1.5 Tbsp
  • Minced garlic 1 Tbsp
  • Sesame oil 1.5 Tbsp
  • Water 1.5 liters (8 cups)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, soak the dried seaweed (25g) in plenty of cold water for about 15-20 minutes until thoroughly rehydrated. Softened seaweed ensures a pleasant texture.

Step 1

Step 2

Once rehydrated, rub the seaweed vigorously with your hands under running water and rinse it clean 2-3 times. Squeeze out excess water, then cut it into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm) with scissors and place it in a colander to drain.

Step 2

Step 3

Prepare one can of tuna. Open the can, place the tuna in a colander, and pour boiling hot water over it. This step effectively removes the fishy smell and a significant portion of the oil.

Step 3

Step 4

Heat a pot over medium heat and add 1.5 Tbsp of sesame oil. Add the drained seaweed and 1 Tbsp of soup soy sauce. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the seaweed softens and absorbs the seasoning. This step is crucial for developing a deep flavor in the soup.

Step 4

Step 5

Pour 1.5 liters of water into the pot with the sautéed seaweed. Add the blanched tuna and 1.5 Tbsp of fish sauce concentrate. Bring to a boil over high heat with the lid open. This helps to create a more refreshing broth.

Step 5

Step 6

Once the soup comes to a rolling boil, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and simmer gently for 40 minutes to 1 hour. The longer it simmers, the more the flavors of the seaweed and tuna will meld into the broth, resulting in a richer, deeper taste.

Step 6

Step 7

After simmering, add 1 Tbsp of minced garlic and boil for another moment. Taste and adjust the seasoning; you can add another 0.5 Tbsp of fish sauce concentrate or use salt if needed. Briefly boiling it over high heat at the end enhances the aroma. It’s ready!

Step 7

Step 8

When prepared this way, you won’t detect any fishy smell or excess oil from the tuna, and the broth will be clean and refreshing, making you want to eat it with rice.

Step 8

Step 9

Combine the beloved soft seaweed soup with the affordable and delicious tuna to create a satisfying and tasty meal. It’s wonderfully delicious when mixed with hot rice and eaten with a slurp! 😀
