Main Ingredients- 3 medium-sized potatoes
- 3 Tbsp unsalted butter (softened at room temperature)
- 1/2 paper cup (approx. 100ml) milk (warmed slightly)
- 1 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
- Pinch of black pepper (freshly ground is best for aroma)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, peel the skins off 3 medium-sized potatoes and cut them into uniform cubes, about 2-3 cm in size. Place the cut potatoes in a pot, cover them with water, and bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Drain the water completely. While the potatoes are still hot, add 3 tablespoons of butter and the warmed 1/2 paper cup (approx. 100ml) of milk directly into the pot with the potatoes.
Step 2
Now, let’s mash them to a creamy consistency. Mashing while the potatoes are warm makes them easier to mash and results in a smoother texture. Use a fork, potato masher, or a large spoon to mash the potatoes thoroughly until there are no lumps and they are smooth. As you mash, add 1 teaspoon of salt to season and mix well. Finally, add a pinch of black pepper to taste and enhance the aroma.
Step 3
As you can see, the boiled potatoes, butter, milk, salt, and pepper have come together to create a smooth and creamy texture. You can see how it’s mashed without any lumps. Feel free to adjust the amount of butter and milk to your preference to achieve your desired consistency and flavor.
Step 4
Transfer the beautifully mashed potatoes into a serving bowl. For an extra touch of color and flavor, you can sprinkle some chopped parsley or paprika on top. And there you have it – deliciously smooth and savory mashed potatoes, ready in no time! They make a fantastic side dish for steak, burgers, chicken, and so much more. See? So easy to make!
