Essential Ingredients
  • Donut mix 500g
  • Tofu 1/2 block (approx. 150g)
  • 1 egg
  • 100g water
  • A little dusting flour (for rolling)
  • Cooking oil (for frying) as needed
  • Strawberry jam (optional, for garnish) a little

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a large bowl, pour the entire 500g of donut mix. Crack 1 egg into the center.

Step 2

Drain the water thoroughly from half a block of tofu (about 150g) using a cheesecloth or clean kitchen towel. Add the squeezed tofu to the bowl with the donut mix and egg.

Step 3

Now, gradually add 100g of water while mixing the dough. The amount of water may vary depending on the moisture content of the tofu, so it’s best to adjust it while observing the dough’s consistency.

Step 4

Using a spatula or your hands, mix all ingredients until well combined. The dough might not be perfectly smooth due to the tofu. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and let it rest at room temperature for about 10 minutes.

Step 5

Generously sprinkle dusting flour (all-purpose flour or frying flour) on your work surface or a large tray to prevent the dough from sticking.

Step 6

Place the rested dough on the floured surface. Take portions of the dough, flatten them slightly, and use a cup or cookie cutter to create the large donut shape. For the center hole, use a bottle cap or a small cookie cutter to press down and form the classic donut hole.

Step 7

Your lovely donut shapes are now complete! Making shapes with your children can be a fun activity.

Step 8

Pour a generous amount of cooking oil into a deep wok or pot and preheat over medium-low heat. To test the oil temperature, drop a small piece of dough; it should float up immediately with bubbles forming, indicating it’s ready.

Step 9

Once the oil is at the correct temperature, carefully add the shaped donut dough, being careful not to overcrowd the wok.

Step 10

After adding the donuts, reduce the heat to low. Fry them slowly, turning them occasionally, until they turn a uniform golden brown on both sides. It’s important to allow enough time for them to cook through completely.

Step 11

Once fried to perfection, remove the donuts from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Let them cool slightly. Optionally, you can spread a little strawberry jam or sprinkle powdered sugar on top for delicious tofu donuts!
