- 3 Tbsp Perilla Oil
- 2 Tbsp Perilla Seed Powder
Seasonings & Aromatics- 6 Tbsp Water
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Chopped Scallions
- 1/2 Tbsp Salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
- 6 Tbsp Water
- 1/2 Tbsp Minced Garlic
- 1 Tbsp Chopped Scallions
- 1/2 Tbsp Salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 Tbsp Toasted Sesame Seeds (for garnish)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare about 500g of fresh radish (approximately 1/3 of a medium radish). Peel the radish thoroughly, then cut it in half lengthwise. Afterward, slice it into thin julienne strips, about 0.5cm thick. The thickness of the radish strips can be adjusted to your preference.
Step 2
In a wide non-stick pot, heat 3 tablespoons of fragrant perilla oil. Add all the julienned radish to the pot. Sauté over medium heat for about 3 minutes, or until the radish just begins to soften and wilt. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Step 3
Once the radish has been lightly sautéed, add 6 to 7 tablespoons of water. Cover the pot with a lid and continue to cook over medium heat for about 3 minutes, allowing the radish to steam and soften. Cooking with the lid on helps the radish become tender and ensures the moisture is evenly distributed.
Step 4
Check if the radish has become translucent and tender. Once cooked, remove the lid. Season with 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of chopped scallions, and 1/2 tablespoon of salt. (You can adjust the salt according to your taste.) Finally, add 2 tablespoons of perilla seed powder for a nutty flavor and gently mix everything together until well combined. Continue to cook for another 1 to 2 minutes, then turn off the heat.
Step 5
Transfer the finished radish namul to a serving dish. Sprinkle with 1/2 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds as a garnish. Your delicious radish namul, full of nutty perilla aroma, is now ready! It has a pleasant amount of broth, making it soft and moist. It’s also delicious served over rice as a flavorful bibimbap base.
