Spam Pancakes

Special Spam Pancakes Perfect for a Dinner Side Dish 🙂

Spam Pancakes

Spam pancakes for my child who loves spam! This is a great dinner side dish for picky eaters who don’t like vegetables. The savory spam combined with the sweetness of the vegetables makes for a delightful meal that even the fussiest eaters will enjoy.

Main Ingredients

  • Spam 1 can (approx. 200g)
  • 1/3 Bell Pepper (use different colors for visual appeal)
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1 Egg

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

In a large bowl, break apart the Spam into small pieces using your hands or a fork. If the Spam is too salty for your liking, you can briefly blanch it in hot water to reduce the saltiness.

Step 1

Step 2

Wash and thoroughly dry the bell pepper and onion. Finely chop them into small pieces, similar in size to the Spam or slightly smaller. Feel free to substitute or add other vegetables you have on hand, such as carrots or zucchini. Bell peppers are especially recommended for their sweet flavor and vibrant color.

Step 2

Step 3

Add the crumbled Spam and the finely chopped bell pepper and onion to the bowl. Mix everything together thoroughly using a spatula or spoon. You can customize the vegetables based on what you have available. Incorporating a variety of vegetables will enhance the overall flavor profile.

Step 3

Step 4

Crack one egg into the Spam and vegetable mixture. Mix well until everything is evenly combined. The egg acts as a binder, helping to hold the pancake ingredients together and prevent them from falling apart during cooking.

Step 4

Step 5

Finally, add 2 tablespoons of tempura flour to the mixture and stir until a cohesive batter forms. If the batter seems too wet and difficult to handle, add another tablespoon of tempura flour to achieve a workable consistency. A batter that is too thin may cause the pancakes to break apart.

Step 5

Step 6

Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot pan, shaping them into round, flat pancakes. Avoid overcrowding the pan; leave some space between each pancake to ensure even cooking and prevent them from sticking together.

Step 6

Step 7

Cook over medium heat until golden brown on both sides. Once one side is nicely browned, carefully flip the pancakes and cook the other side until golden. Transfer the perfectly cooked Spam pancakes to a plate. Enjoy them warm for the best taste!
