Sparkling Sweetness! Homemade Strawberry Tanghulu Recipe
Make Strawberry Tanghulu, A Festive Christmas Fruit Dessert
Here’s an easy and fun strawberry tanghulu recipe that even kids can make! Fresh strawberries coated in a crisp, sweet syrup offer a delightful treat for both the eyes and the palate. It’s a perfect homemade fruit dessert for the Christmas season and beyond.
Ingredients- 10 fresh strawberries
- 2/3 cup sugar (paper cup measurement)
- Approx. 1/4 cup water (adjust according to sugar amount)
- 4 skewers
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the strawberries thoroughly under running water and carefully remove the stems. It’s crucial to pat them dry with a paper towel; any remaining moisture can prevent the sugar coating from adhering properly. Thread 3 strawberries onto each skewer.
Step 2
Your strawberry skewers are now ready. Ensure they are well-dried for the next step.
Step 3
Now, let’s make the syrup. In a saucepan, combine about 1/4 cup of water and 2/3 cup of sugar (using a paper cup for measurement). (Tip: We used brown sugar instead of white sugar, which adds a subtle caramel flavor, but any sugar will work!) Place the pot over low heat and gently stir until the sugar dissolves completely.
Step 4
Continue to simmer the syrup over low heat until it thickens to a syrupy consistency, about 5-7 minutes after it starts boiling. You’ll know it’s ready when a drop of syrup from a spoon or ladle falls in a thick stream. (Tip: If you have corn syrup, adding 1-2 tablespoons along with the sugar and water can help prevent crystallization and create a shinier coating.)
Step 5
The natural sugars released from the strawberries help prevent the formation of sugar crystals and act similarly to corn syrup, aiding the tanghulu in hardening beautifully.
Step 6
Carefully ladle the hot syrup over the prepared strawberry skewers, coating them evenly and thinly. Use a spoon or ladle to gently swirl the syrup around the strawberries, ensuring a smooth, even layer. Avoid thick clumps. Immediately place the coated strawberries onto parchment paper. (Tip: Using parchment paper is highly recommended as it prevents the tanghulu from sticking, making removal much easier.)
Step 7
Let the strawberry tanghulu harden on the parchment paper at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes. Placing them in a cooler spot can speed up the process. Once hardened, you’ll have sparkling, crisp, and sweet strawberry tanghulu! Enjoy this delightful treat with family and friends.
