Seasoning

  • Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) 1 Tbsp

  • Water 250ml

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, thinly slice the whole garlic cloves. This will release their aromatic flavor into the stew.

Step 1

Step 2

Wash the Korean green chili peppers, remove the stems, and slice them diagonally. If you prefer more heat, you can leave the seeds in.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat a pot over medium heat, add a small amount of cooking oil, and sauté the sliced garlic until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic; sauté until it turns a light golden brown.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the garlic is fragrant, add the diagonally sliced chili peppers and stir-fry briefly with the garlic. This step adds a lovely spicy aroma to the broth base.

Step 4

Step 5

Now, add the drained silkworm pupae to the pot. Stir-fry them with the garlic and chili peppers for about 1 minute. This helps to remove any residual odor from the pupae and enhances their nutty flavor.

Step 5

Step 6

Pour in 250ml of water. You can adjust the amount of water to achieve your desired broth consistency.

Step 6

Step 7

Finally, add 1 tablespoon of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) and season with salt to taste. Bring the stew to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium-low and simmer for about 5 minutes. Your delicious and spicy Beondegijang is ready to be enjoyed! Serve hot for the best flavor.
