- 1.5 Tbsp sesame oil
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce
- 0.5 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- A pinch of sesame seeds
- A pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Let’s gather all the ingredients needed for our delicious Pork Kimchi Rice Bowl. You’ll need plenty of ripe kimchi, tender pork, fragrant garlic, crisp green onions, and a chili pepper for an extra kick if you like it spicy. With these, a wonderful meal will be ready in no time!
Step 2
First, we’ll marinate the kimchi to help the flavors meld. In a bowl, combine the kimchi with a pinch of black pepper, 0.5 Tbsp sesame oil, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, and 1 Tbsp sugar. Gently mix and let it sit for a while. This step will deepen the kimchi’s flavor profile.
Step 3
Heat a pan and stir-fry the pork until it’s golden brown. Once the pork is partially cooked, cut it into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm). It’s best to cut the pork while it’s cooking, as cutting it beforehand can lead to clumping. This technique ensures the pork remains tender and flavorful.
Step 4
Set the cooked pork aside temporarily. Now, it’s time to prepare the vegetables. Slice the green onion diagonally and finely chop the chili pepper (if using). Try not to slice the vegetables too thinly; this will help maintain their pleasant crunch after stir-frying.
Step 5
Next, finely chop the kimchi into small pieces. Chop it with some of its juice for better flavor. Cutting the kimchi into smaller pieces prevents it from becoming too overwhelming in the rice bowl and ensures a good distribution of flavor.
Step 6
Return the stir-fried pork to the pan along with the chopped kimchi. Add 1 Tbsp of soy sauce and stir-fry over medium heat until the kimchi softens and combines well with the pork. The soy sauce adds a wonderful savory depth.
Step 7
Once the kimchi and pork are sufficiently stir-fried, add 0.5 Tbsp of gochujang. Continue to stir-fry for another minute, ensuring the sauce coats everything evenly. The gochujang will add a rich, spicy dimension to the dish.
Step 8
When the pork and kimchi are almost cooked through, add the prepared green onions and chili peppers. Stir-fry quickly over high heat just until the vegetables are slightly tender but still retain some crispness. Keeping the vegetables fresh and crunchy is key!
Step 9
Turn off the heat once all ingredients are well combined and stir-fried. Finally, drizzle the remaining 1 Tbsp of sesame oil around the edges of the pan and give everything a quick toss. The aroma of toasted sesame oil will elevate the overall flavor of your Kimchi Rice Bowl.
Step 10
Spoon the finished spicy and savory Pork Kimchi Rice Bowl generously over a bowl of warm rice. Sprinkle with a pinch of sesame seeds for a beautiful finish. Mix it all up and enjoy your delicious homemade meal!
