Shishito Pepper Stir-fry Recipe: Great for Blood Pressure, Appetite Control, and Fat Burning
Enjoy delicious braised shishito peppers, known to help lower blood pressure and aid in fat breakdown and appetite suppression thanks to their capsaicin content! This dish is perfect as a side for rice or even as a snack.
Main Ingredients
- 250g Shishito Peppers (approx. 15-20 peppers)
- 2 pinches Salt (for washing peppers)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, wash the shishito peppers thoroughly and pat them dry. Keep the stems on. Using a fork or toothpick, prick each pepper 2-3 times. This helps the sauce penetrate deeply, making them more flavorful.
Step 2
Heat 1-2 Tbsp of cooking oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat. Add the pricked shishito peppers and stir-fry for about 2-3 minutes, being careful not to burn them. When the peppers start to develop small bubbles on their surface and look slightly glossy, proceed to the next step.
Step 3
Add 2 Tbsp of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) to the pan with the stir-fried peppers and cook for another 30 seconds. Stir-frying the chili flakes in oil briefly mellows their spiciness and enhances their aroma.
Step 4
Now, add all the remaining seasoning ingredients: 2 Tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 Tbsp fish sauce, 1.5 Tbsp sugar, and 1/2 Tbsp roasted soybean flour. Stir well to coat the peppers evenly with the sauce and continue to stir-fry for about 1-2 minutes.
Step 5
Finally, pour in 100ml (about 1/2 cup) of water. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the peppers beautifully. Ensure the sauce doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan. Once the sauce has reduced to a glaze, your delicious braised shishito peppers are ready! They are wonderful served hot or at room temperature.
