Spicy and Sweet Mapo Tofu
Delicious Mapo Tofu Made with My Own Special Recipe
Today, I’ve made Mapo Tofu, a popular tofu dish. Since this isn’t a standard recipe and I’ve made it my own way, I’ll share this recipe that’s both nutritious and delicious, allowing you to enjoy tofu even more.
Ingredients- 1 block Firm Tofu (for pan-frying)
- 1/2 Green Onion
- 1/2 Onion
- 100g Ground Meat (pork or beef)
- 1/2 Tbsp Chili Powder
- Pinch of Salt
- Pinch of Black Pepper
- 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 1 Tbsp Minced Garlic (optional)
- 2 Tbsp Ketchup
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, heat 2 Tbsp of cooking oil with 1/2 Tbsp of chili powder in a pan over low heat to release their aroma. (Normally, I use chili oil, but if you don’t have it, cooking oil and chili powder work just fine!)
Step 2
Once the oil is hot, add the chopped green onions and stir-fry over medium heat until fragrant and slightly softened, creating a nice green onion oil.
Step 3
Next, add the sliced onion and sauté until translucent. Then, add the ground meat and break it apart with your spatula, cooking until it’s no longer pink.
Step 4
Season with a pinch of black pepper and a pinch of salt. (Since we’ll be adding soy sauce later, start with just a little seasoning.)
Step 5
Add the cubed tofu to the pan and gently stir-fry it with the meat mixture, being careful not to break the tofu too much. Lightly browning the tofu adds a nice texture.
Step 6
Now, for my secret ingredient blend! Add 2 Tbsp of soy sauce, 2 Tbsp of water, and 2 Tbsp of ketchup directly into the pan. Mix everything gently to coat the ingredients.
Step 7
Stir and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats everything beautifully. Your delicious Mapo Tofu is ready! Serve it hot over steamed rice.
