Main Ingredients

  • 1 packet Ramyeon noodles
  • 5 pieces Tteokbokki rice cakes (about 50g)
  • 3 sheets Square fish cakes
  • 1/2 stalk Green onion

Seasoning

  • 2/3 packet Ramyeon soup powder
  • 2 cups Water (400ml)
  • 1 Tbsp Gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 0.5 Tbsp Gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1 Tbsp Brown sugar

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, let’s prepare the ingredients. If your tteokbokki rice cakes are frozen, soak them in cold water for about 10 minutes until softened. Then, cut them in half to prevent sticking. For the fish cakes, briefly blanch them in boiling water to remove excess oil, then slice them into bite-sized pieces (about 2cm wide). Slice the green onion diagonally. Having all ingredients prepped makes cooking much smoother!

Step 1

Step 2

Now, let’s make the delicious Rabokki sauce! Pour 2 cups (400ml) of water into a pot. Add 2/3 of the ramyeon soup powder packet, 1 tablespoon of gochujang, and 0.5 tablespoon of gochugaru. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, stirring occasionally to combine the ingredients until the sauce is bubbling vigorously.

Step 2

Step 3

Once the sauce is boiling well, add the prepared tteokbokki rice cakes and sliced fish cakes. Stir in 1 tablespoon of brown sugar for sweetness. Let it simmer for about 5 more minutes, allowing the rice cakes to soften and the fish cakes to absorb the flavors. It’s important to stir occasionally to prevent the rice cakes from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

Step 3

Step 4

Now for the star of the Rabokki – it’s time to add the ramyeon noodles! Place the ramyeon packet into the simmering mixture of tteok and fish cakes. Gently loosen the noodles with chopsticks or tongs so they don’t clump together.

Step 4

Step 5

Cook for about 3 more minutes, stirring gently with chopsticks or tongs, allowing the ramyeon noodles to absorb the broth and cook through. When the broth has reduced by about half and the noodles are perfectly cooked, add the prepared green onions and let it simmer for another moment. The fresh aroma of the green onions will enhance the flavor of your Rabokki. Enjoy it hot right away for the best taste!
