  • Assorted Spam 1 package (approx. 200g)
  • Green Onion 1/2 stalk (approx. 30cm length)
  • Onion 1 medium
  • Cabbage 1 handful (approx. 100g)
  • Zucchini 1/2 medium
  • Perilla Leaves 20 leaves

Flavorful Sauce
  • Soy Sauce 4 Tbsp
  • Gochujang (Korean chili paste) 2 Tbsp
  • Gochugaru (Korean chili powder) 2 Tbsp
  • Sugar 1 Tbsp
  • Oligosaccharide 2 Tbsp (for shine and sweetness!)
  • Garlic Powder 1/2 Tbsp
  • Ginger Powder 1/2 Tbsp
  • Curry Powder 1/2 Tbsp (for aroma!)
  • Sesame Oil 1 Tbsp
  • Perilla Oil 1 Tbsp (for nutty flavor!)
  • Sesame Seeds 1/2 Tbsp
  • Cooking Wine (Mirin) 2 Tbsp (to remove odor)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan. Add the chopped green onions and stir-fry over low heat to create fragrant green onion oil. Once the aroma is released, add the spam cut into bite-sized pieces and stir-fry until lightly browned to enhance its flavor.

Step 2

Push the fried spam to one side of the pan. Add the shredded onion, chunked cabbage, and half-moon sliced zucchini. Stir-fry over high heat for a short time to maintain the crisp texture of the vegetables.

Step 3

Now, add all the pre-mixed sauce ingredients (Soy Sauce 4 Tbsp, Gochujang 2 Tbsp, Gochugaru 2 Tbsp, Sugar 1 Tbsp, Oligosaccharide 2 Tbsp, Garlic Powder 1/2 Tbsp, Ginger Powder 1/2 Tbsp, Curry Powder 1/2 Tbsp, Cooking Wine 2 Tbsp) to the pan. Stir-fry quickly to evenly coat the vegetables and spam. Be mindful of the heat to prevent burning.

Step 4

Once the sauce begins to thicken slightly, add the sundae cut into bite-sized pieces and stir-fry together. Continue to stir-fry over medium heat as the sundae cooks and absorbs the sauce.

Step 5

When the sundae is cooked through and the sauce has reduced to a nice consistency, add the perilla leaves, washed and cut into manageable pieces. Stir-fry briefly, just enough to wilt them and release their fragrant aroma. Avoid overcooking, as it can make the perilla leaves mushy.

Step 6

Finally, turn off the heat. Drizzle in 1 Tbsp of sesame oil and 1 Tbsp of perilla oil for an extra nutty aroma. Sprinkle with 1/2 Tbsp of sesame seeds for a visually appealing finish. This delicious Spam and Sundae Stir-fry is now ready! It’s perfect as a side dish with rice or as a delightful appetizer.
