Spicy and Sweet Stir-Fried Squid: The Golden Recipe
Easy Frozen Squid Stir-Fry Sauce: Making Delicious Squid Side Dish
Introducing an easy-to-make spicy and sweet frozen squid stir-fry recipe. Use frozen squid to create a wonderful squid side dish.
Main Ingredients- 2 frozen squids
- 1/2 stalk of green onion
- 1/4 zucchini
- 1/4 carrot
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, prepare the sauce ingredients that will determine the flavor of the squid stir-fry, and fresh vegetables. Have 2 frozen squids ready, and use green onion, zucchini, and carrot. (If you have an onion, adding it will result in a richer flavor.)
Step 2
Blanch the squid. While you can stir-fry the squid directly, lightly blanching it before cooking helps reduce the amount of water released during stir-frying, leading to a cleaner taste. This is especially beneficial if you’re making it as a side dish to be stored and eaten later.
Step 3
Add the frozen squid to boiling water and blanch briefly until its color turns a vivid white. Be careful not to overcook, as this can make the squid tough. Rinse the blanched squid in cold water, drain any excess moisture, and then cut it into bite-sized pieces (about 2-3 cm).
Step 4
Now, let’s make the delicious squid stir-fry sauce! In a bowl, combine 1/2 Tbsp gochujang, 1 Tbsp gochugaru, 7 tsp soy sauce, 2 tsp sugar, and 1 tsp minced garlic. Mix them thoroughly. Start with this amount of seasoning and adjust the taste later. This way, you can create a delicious sauce without failure.
Step 5
Heat a lightly oiled pan and first stir-fry the chopped green onions until fragrant. (If using onion, stir-fry it together at this stage.) Once the green onion aroma is released, add the zucchini, carrot, and other prepared vegetables. Stir-fry them together until the vegetables are slightly tender.
Step 6
When the vegetables are somewhat cooked, add the prepared squid stir-fry sauce and mix well with the ingredients. Once the sauce has started to coat everything, add the blanched and cut squid. Stir-fry them together until the sauce is evenly absorbed by the squid. Avoid overcooking, which can make the squid tough.
Step 7
Finally, taste and adjust the seasoning. If it’s too bland, add more soy sauce. If it needs more sweetness, add 1 tsp of corn syrup. Adding corn syrup will give the dish a nice sheen and make it look more appetizing. If you prefer it spicier, you can add finely chopped Cheongyang chili peppers at this stage. Just before turning off the heat, drizzle in 1 tsp of sesame oil and toss lightly to finish.
Step 8
The finished stir-fried squid is best served with a little extra sauce, perfect for mixing with rice. Placing it over warm rice or mixing it with a fried egg on top will create an even more delicious meal. Enjoy this wonderful frozen squid dish right away!
