- 2 squid tentacles (or the equivalent of 1 whole squid body)
Sauce Ingredients- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup) or mulyeot (corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp ginger and plum-flavored cooking wine (or 1 Tbsp cheongju if unavailable)
- A pinch of black pepper (a few twists)
- Canola oil or cooking oil, as needed
- 4 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp oligodang (corn syrup) or mulyeot (corn syrup)
- 1 Tbsp ginger and plum-flavored cooking wine (or 1 Tbsp cheongju if unavailable)
- A pinch of black pepper (a few twists)
- Canola oil or cooking oil, as needed
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the Korean green peppers. Trim off the stems from the peppers and wash them thoroughly under running water. (Pro-tip: Soaking them in lukewarm sugar water for about 10 minutes before rinsing can help remove any sticky residue, leading to a cleaner flavor.)

Step 2
After preparing the peppers, pat them dry. Slice them diagonally into two pieces. If you prefer fewer seeds, you can gently rinse the sliced peppers in cold water to remove them.

Step 3
Now, place the seeded Korean green peppers into a pan. To bring out their natural fragrance, we’ll lightly stir-fry them over high heat initially.

Step 4
Add 4 tablespoons of soy sauce and a generous amount of canola oil to the pan. Stir-fry the peppers over medium-high heat until they become translucent and slightly softened. This step allows the peppers to subtly absorb the soy sauce flavor.

Step 5
Once the green peppers are somewhat cooked, add the prepared squid tentacles and 1 tablespoon of ginger and plum-flavored cooking wine. Stir-fry together. It’s important to cook quickly over high heat to prevent the squid from becoming tough.

Step 6
When the squid is almost cooked through, add 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, 2 tablespoons of oligodang, and a pinch of black pepper. This will add sweetness and umami, further enhancing the flavors of the peppers and squid.

Step 7
Finally, give everything a quick, final stir to ensure all ingredients are well combined. For an extra nutty flavor, you can sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top before serving.

Step 8
Plate the deliciously cooked stir-fried squid and green peppers attractively. Served over warm rice, this dish is an absolute delight! It’s a fantastic side dish that everyone, young and old, will love. Enjoy your meal!
