Main Ingredients- 3 strips bacon (approx. 150g), cut into 1-2cm pieces
- 1/6 head cabbage (approx. 200g), cut into large pieces
- 1 small onion (approx. 100g), thinly sliced
- 2 Korean green chilies (cheongyang peppers), finely chopped (adjust to spice preference)
- 1 handful chopped scallions (approx. 20g)
- 1.5 Tbsp cooking oil (e.g., vegetable or canola oil)
Seasoning Ingredients- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp mirin (rice wine) or cooking wine
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligo syrup
- Pinch of black pepper
- 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
- 1 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1 Tbsp oyster sauce
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp mirin (rice wine) or cooking wine
- 1 Tbsp corn syrup or oligo syrup
- Pinch of black pepper
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Before you begin cooking, prepare all your ingredients according to the recipe. Cut the bacon into 1-2cm pieces, the cabbage into bite-sized chunks, and slice the onion thinly. Finely chop the Korean green chilies, removing the seeds if you prefer less heat. Having everything prepped makes the cooking process smooth and efficient.
Step 2
In a small bowl, combine all the seasoning ingredients: gochugaru, minced garlic, oyster sauce, soy sauce, mirin, corn syrup, and black pepper. Mix them well with a spoon to create a uniform sauce. This ensures the flavors will distribute evenly during cooking.
Step 3
Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the chopped scallions and cook them gently to infuse the oil with a fragrant scallion aroma. Be careful not to burn the scallions; cook until they become fragrant and slightly softened, which will bring out their subtle sweetness.
Step 4
Once the scallion oil is ready, increase the heat to medium-high. Add the cut bacon to the pan and stir-fry until it becomes golden brown and slightly crispy. As the bacon cooks, it will release its flavorful fat, which will add depth to the entire dish.
Step 5
When the bacon is nicely rendered, add the sliced onion and cabbage to the pan. Stir-fry over high heat for about 30 seconds. This quick stir-fry will help retain the crispness of the vegetables while slightly softening them and releasing their natural sweetness.
Step 6
Pour the prepared seasoning sauce over the ingredients in the pan. Reduce the heat to medium and stir-fry for about 2 minutes, ensuring the sauce coats everything evenly. Keep stirring to prevent the sauce from sticking to the pan and burning.
Step 7
Finally, add the chopped Korean green chilies and stir-fry for another 2 minutes. This adds a pleasant spicy kick to the dish. Your delicious spicy bacon and cabbage stir-fry is now ready to be enjoyed with a hot bowl of rice! Enjoy your meal:)
