Main Ingredients- 1 block Tofu (approx. 300g)
- 1/2 Onion
- 2 Green or Red Chili Peppers
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
1. Slice the tofu into 1.5cm thick pieces. Heat a frying pan over medium-low heat and add 1 Tbsp of cooking oil and 2 Tbsp of perilla oil. Once the pan is warm, carefully place the tofu slices in it. Reduce the heat to low before adding the tofu to prevent sticking and ensure a crispy exterior and tender interior.
Step 2
2. Don’t remove the fried tofu from the pan. After lightly blotting away excess oil with paper towels, pour the braising sauce directly into the pan. This saves you an extra step!
Step 3
3. Mix all the braising sauce ingredients in a small bowl. Pour about two-thirds of the sauce over the tofu and start to braise. Taste the sauce midway through cooking and add the remaining sauce if you prefer it saltier or more flavorful. You can adjust the soy sauce amount to your preference.
Step 4
4. After adding the sauce, reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan with a lid and let it simmer gently for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to penetrate the tofu. Keep an eye on the heat to prevent burning.
Step 5
5. After simmering for about 5 minutes, use a spoon to ladle the sauce over the tofu pieces repeatedly. This helps the flavor to evenly distribute. Finally, drizzle with sesame seeds and 1 Tbsp of sesame oil for added aroma and flavor. Your delicious spicy braised tofu is ready!
