Main Ingredients
  • 2/3 block firm tofu (approx. 200g)
  • A little cooking oil

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, it’s important to remove excess moisture from the tofu. Gently press the tofu with paper towels to absorb as much water as possible. This step helps prevent oil splattering when frying and results in a crispier texture.

Step 2

Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces. Typically, cubes of about 2-3 cm are a good size. Feel free to cut them into your preferred shape, such as squares or half-moons.

Step 3

Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add enough cooking oil to coat the bottom. Place the tofu pieces in the pan, ensuring they have some space between them to avoid sticking.

Step 4

Pan-fry the tofu on medium heat until both sides are golden brown and slightly crispy. Flip the pieces to ensure even browning. This step enhances the tofu’s texture.

Step 5

While the tofu is frying, prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, gochugaru, and sugar. Mix well until the sugar is dissolved, creating a flavorful sauce.

Step 6

Once the tofu is nicely browned, push the pieces to one side of the pan. Pour the prepared sauce over the tofu, spreading it evenly. Let it cook for a minute or two, allowing the tofu to absorb the sauce flavors.

Step 7

Finally, arrange the chopped scallions on top of the tofu and carefully pour in the 200ml of water. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently until the sauce has slightly reduced and thickened. Once the sauce is to your desired consistency, turn off the heat, sprinkle with sesame seeds, and your delicious spicy braised tofu is ready to serve!
