Main Ingredients

  • 250g frozen raw shrimp (thawed and patted dry)
  • 3 button mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1/5 head broccoli (cut into florets)
  • 1/2 onion (thinly sliced)
  • 5 pepero chili (adjust to taste)

Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 Tbsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
  • 1/4 Tbsp sugar
  • 2/3 Tbsp soy sauce (or regular soy sauce)
  • 1.5 paper cups heavy cream (approx. 300ml)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper

Optional Side

  • Sliced bread (great for dipping in the sauce)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the vegetables. Wash the onion and button mushrooms thoroughly under running water and slice them thinly. Cut the broccoli into bite-sized florets.

Step 1

Step 2

Get ready to blanch the broccoli. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add a pinch of salt, and blanch the prepared broccoli florets for about 30 seconds. Be careful not to overcook, as they can become too soft. Rinse the blanched broccoli under cold water and drain.

Step 2

Step 3

This step adds aroma and depth of flavor. Heat a pan with a generous amount of cooking oil. Add the minced garlic, sliced onion, button mushrooms, and pepero chili. Sauté over medium-low heat for 3-4 minutes until fragrant.

Step 3

Step 4

Now, add the main ingredient, shrimp, and the sauce ingredients. Add the thawed and dried shrimp, red pepper flakes, sugar, and soy sauce to the pan. Pour in the heavy cream. Bring to a simmer over medium heat and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to combine everything well.

Step 4

Step 5

Final touches. Add the blanched broccoli to the pan. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for another minute until everything is heated through and the sauce has slightly thickened. Your delicious spicy cream shrimp is ready! Serve hot, perhaps with some toasted bread to soak up the rich sauce.
