Kimbap Ingredients

  • 3 sheets of square fish cakes
  • 3 Cheongyang peppers (Korean red chili peppers)
  • 2 sheets of dried seaweed (gim)
  • 300g cooked rice

Fish Cake Stir-fry Seasoning

  • 0.3 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes (gochugaru)
  • 1 tsp oligosaccharide (or corn syrup/honey)
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 50ml water (approx. 1/2 soju cup)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Wash the Cheongyang peppers thoroughly, then slice them in half and remove the seeds. If you like it spicier, you can leave the seeds in. (Tip: Soaking them in water briefly before rinsing can reduce the spiciness slightly.)

Step 1

Step 2

Slice the fish cakes into long, thin strips for easy eating.

Step 2

Step 3

Lightly oil a heated pan. Add 0.5 tsp of minced garlic and sauté over low heat until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic. Add the sliced fish cakes and stir-fry together for about 1 minute.

Step 3

Step 4

Once the fish cakes start to become slightly translucent, add 50ml of water. Then, add 1 tsp of red pepper flakes, 1 tsp of oligosaccharide, and 2 tsp of soy sauce. Stir-fry over medium heat, allowing the sauce to simmer and coat the fish cakes.

Step 4

Step 5

When the sauce has reduced to a glaze and the fish cakes are shiny, your delicious spicy fish cake stir-fry is ready! Turn off the heat and let it cool slightly.

Step 5

Step 6

Place a sheet of dried seaweed on a bamboo rolling mat. Spread the warm cooked rice thinly over the seaweed. Place a portion of the cooled spicy fish cake stir-fry and the prepared Cheongyang peppers on top. Roll it up tightly using the mat. (Tip: Don’t use too much rice, as it will make rolling difficult; spreading it thinly is key.)

Step 6

Step 7

Cut the roll into bite-sized pieces to complete your spicy and sweet fish cake mini kimbap! Enjoy your meal.
