  • 1 serving Udon Noodles
  • 2 sheets Fish Cakes (Eomuk)
  • 1 handful Bean Sprouts
  • A little Green Onion

Additional Ingredients
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 piece Crab Stick (Kani Kama)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

This is the secret to the spicy and deep broth: ‘Dadam Budae Jjigae Sauce’. With just this one sauce packet, you can easily and deliciously make a wonderful fish cake udon at home or even at a campsite, without needing any other complicated seasonings. Enjoy the rich flavor without the fuss.

Step 2

Cut the square fish cakes into bite-sized pieces, similar to udon noodles for easier eating. Wash a handful of bean sprouts thoroughly. Adding bean sprouts will make the broth even more refreshing and clean-tasting.

Step 3

Prepare the udon noodles for a chewy texture. For optional additions, we have a soft egg and the savory crab sticks to add richness. Feel free to add other ingredients you like!

Step 4

Pour 700ml (about 3.5 cups) of water into a pot. Add the entire packet of ‘Dadam Budae Jjigae Sauce’ and dissolve it completely in the water. I used only one serving of udon noodles since I’m eating alone, but you can easily make a 2-serving portion by adjusting the sauce and water quantities.

Step 5

Once the water comes to a rolling boil, add the sliced fish cakes. The fish cakes will absorb the broth’s flavor, making it even richer and more delicious.

Step 6

Now, add the udon noodles. Gently separate the noodles as they cook to prevent them from sticking together.

Step 7

When the udon noodles are somewhat cooked, add the handful of bean sprouts for a refreshing taste. Simmer for a little longer after adding the bean sprouts to enjoy their crisp texture and the refreshing broth.

Step 8

Finally, once the soup is bubbling and delicious, turn off the heat and serve in a bowl. For an even more satisfying meal, garnish with chopped green onions or serve with the egg and crab sticks. Enjoy your hearty and flavorful fish cake udon!
