Making a Flavorful Saeujeot Seasoning
Learn how to make a versatile Saeujeot (salted shrimp) seasoning that’s perfect for wraps and rice bowls. This recipe combines the savory depth of saeujeot with a hint of spice, making it an irresistible addition to your meals.
Key Ingredients- 3 Tbsp Saeujeot (fermented salted shrimp)
- 1 Cheongyang pepper (Korean chili pepper)
- A small amount of green onion (white part)
- 1/2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 1/2 Tbsp red chili flakes (gochugaru)
- 3 Tbsp water
- 1 tsp sugar
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
Begin by placing 3 tablespoons of Saeujeot (fermented salted shrimp) into a mixing bowl. Make sure to drain any excess liquid from the shrimp. Finely chop 1 Cheongyang pepper and add it to the bowl. If you prefer a spicier kick, feel free to use two peppers. Mince a small amount of the white part of a green onion and add it to the bowl for added aroma and flavor.
Step 2
Next, add the remaining ingredients: 1/2 tablespoon of minced garlic, 1/2 tablespoon of red chili flakes (gochugaru), 3 tablespoons of water, and 1 teaspoon of sugar for a touch of sweetness. Thoroughly mix all the ingredients together using a spoon or spatula until well combined and the seasoning has a uniform consistency. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed – add a little more Saeujeot if it’s too bland, or a pinch more sugar if you prefer it sweeter.
Step 3
This delicious spicy Saeujeot seasoning is wonderful when served with fresh vegetable wraps (ssam) or as a flavorful topping for rice. Enjoy its savory and slightly spicy taste with your favorite dishes!
