Flavorful Squid Roe Rice Balls: Easy Homemade Recipe
Introducing our Spicy Seasoned Squid Roe Rice Balls, perfect for enjoying like ssam-bap (wrap-rice) in bite-sized portions. They’re an excellent choice for a satisfying meal, especially on busy days. The savory squid roe combined with the nutty aroma of toasted seaweed creates a flavor everyone will love.
Main Ingredients- 3 bowls of warm cooked rice
- 3 Tbsp seasoned squid roe (ojingeojeotgal), chopped
- 3 sheets of dried seaweed (gim)
Seasoning & Extras- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
- 2 Tbsp sesame oil
Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, let’s prepare the seasoned squid roe. If you have whole squid roe, use clean scissors to finely chop it into bite-sized pieces. This will improve the texture when mixed with the rice and ensure the seasoning is evenly distributed, making it more delicious.
Step 2
The seaweed will add even more flavor. Heat a pan over medium-low heat and toast the seaweed sheets on both sides until crisp. Once cooled, cut each sheet into three equal parts, and then into long strips about 3-4 cm wide. This makes them easy to wrap around the rice balls.
Step 3
Now it’s time to season the rice. Place the warm cooked rice in a large bowl. Add the chopped seasoned squid roe and 2 tablespoons of sesame oil. Gently mix everything together with a spatula or your hands, ensuring the rice doesn’t clump. It’s important to mix thoroughly so the squid roe and rice are well combined, preventing the saltiness from being concentrated in one spot.
Step 4
Finally, shape the rice into bite-sized portions to finish! Gently cup the rice in your hands and roll it into balls, or slightly wet your hands and shape them into ovals or your preferred form. Enjoy your rice balls wrapped in the prepared seaweed, just like ssam-bap, for an extra delicious treat!
