Cooking Instructions
Step 1
First, cut the dried squid strips (Jinmi-chae) into pieces about 5-7 cm long. If they are too long, they can be difficult to eat, so cutting them to a suitable length is recommended.
Step 2
Lightly coat a pan with cooking oil and heat over medium-low heat. Add the prepared walnuts, minced garlic, and chopped Cheongyang peppers. Stir-fry gently until fragrant, being careful not to burn them. This step infuses the ingredients with delicious aromas.
Step 3
Add all the seasoning ingredients (gochujang, gochugaru, oligodang, sugar) to the fragrant sautéed ingredients and mix well. Once the sauce starts to bubble, let it simmer for a moment until the delicious sauce is formed, then turn off the heat immediately. Be careful not to burn it by cooking over high heat for too long.
Step 4
Add the prepared dried squid strips to the finished spicy and sweet sauce. The heat should be off at this point, so gently mix the squid strips to ensure the sauce coats them evenly.
Step 5
Now, turn the heat to low and quickly stir-fry the squid strips for about 2-3 minutes until they are evenly coated with the sauce and have a vibrant red color. Avoid overcooking, as the squid strips can become tough; focus on getting a beautiful color coating.
Step 6
Finally, turn off the heat and sprinkle with sesame seeds for garnish. The finished stir-fried dried squid with walnuts is an exceptional side dish, boasting a perfect harmony of chewy texture, nutty flavor, and spicy-sweet taste. It’s a simple and easy recipe, so be sure to give it a try!
