Main Ingredients
  • 1 packet of instant ramen noodles
  • 1 large handful of cabbage
  • 1/2 stalk of green onion (scallion)
  • 2 sheets of fish cakes (eomuk)
  • 1 small bag of Vienna sausages

Seasoning
  • 1 Tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
  • 1/3 Tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 Tbsp corn syrup (or oligodang)
  • 2/3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • A pinch of sesame seeds

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

Let’s start by prepping the vegetables. Slice the green onion diagonally into large pieces. This size makes them easy to eat and look appealing once cooked.

Step 2

Chop the cabbage into bite-sized, generous pieces. The natural sweetness of the cabbage will infuse the broth, adding a wonderful depth to the Rabokki.

Step 3

For the Vienna sausages, cut them into bite-sized pieces or make a shallow diagonal cut on each one. This scoring helps them cook evenly and look more appetizing.

Step 4

Cut the square fish cakes into triangle shapes. If you prefer to eat them in long strands along with the noodles, slicing them lengthwise like noodles is also a great option.

Step 5

Now, get your pot ready. Add about one large bowl of water. First, add the cabbage and fish cakes and bring to a boil. This step creates the fundamental, flavorful broth base.

Step 6

Once the fish cakes begin to soften slightly, add 1 tablespoon of gochujang and stir until it’s fully dissolved. The broth will start to turn a beautiful, appetizing color.

Step 7

Next, add 1 tablespoon of gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) for a spicy kick. Feel free to adjust the amount based on your spice preference.

Step 8

Add 1/3 tablespoon of sugar for sweetness and 1/2 tablespoon of corn syrup (or oligodang) for a glossy finish. The syrup not only adds sweetness but also gives the Rabokki a lovely sheen.

Step 9

Once the broth is boiling vigorously, add the instant ramen noodles and the sliced green onions. Let it cook until the noodles are perfectly tender.

Step 10

Finally, adjust the seasoning with 2/3 tablespoon of soy sauce. Taste and add a little more if needed to reach your desired flavor balance.

Step 11

When the noodles are cooked to your liking, turn off the heat. Transfer the finished Rabokki to a serving bowl and sprinkle with a pinch of sesame seeds for a final touch of nutty flavor. Your delicious Rabokki is ready!
