Main Ingredients

  • 2 sheets of rectangular fish cakes
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 handful of green onions
  • 1 Tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic

Seasoning

  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 0.5 Tbsp sugar
  • 0.5 Tbsp red pepper flakes

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, lightly rinse the 2 sheets of fish cake under cold water. Then, blanch them in boiling water for about 2 minutes. This step helps remove any excess oil from the fish cakes and enhances their chewy texture.

Step 1

Step 2

Drain the blanched fish cakes using a colander and let them cool slightly. While still a bit warm, cut them into bite-sized pieces (typically about 2-3 cm long). Cutting them while warm allows them to absorb the sauce better, making them more flavorful.

Step 2

Step 3

Heat 1-2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan over medium-low heat. Add the minced garlic (1 Tbsp), chopped green onions, and sliced onion. Sauté until fragrant, allowing the flavors of the garlic and onions to fully develop. This aromatic base is key!

Step 3

Step 4

Once the onions begin to turn translucent, add the cut fish cakes to the pan. Now, add the seasoning ingredients: soy sauce (1 Tbsp), sugar (0.5 Tbsp), and red pepper flakes (0.5 Tbsp). Stir-fry quickly to ensure the sauce evenly coats all the ingredients. Taste and add a little more soy sauce if needed.

Step 4

Step 5

Transfer the deliciously stir-fried fish cakes to a serving container. Finish by sprinkling 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds on top for added texture and visual appeal. Your delicious spicy fish cake side dish is ready! It tastes great hot and is also wonderful served at room temperature or cold.
