Main Ingredients
  • 1 can of Spicy Canned Tuna (approx. 150g)
  • 1 Potato (medium size)
  • 1 Onion (medium size)

Cooking Instructions

Step 1

First, prepare the star ingredient: the can of spicy tuna. Opening the can beforehand will make the cooking process smoother.

Step 2

Peel the potato and cut it into approximately 2cm cubes. Cutting them too small might cause them to break apart while cooking, so aim for a moderate size.

Step 3

Dice the onion into similar-sized cubes as the potatoes. The sweetness from the onion will enrich the stew’s flavor.

Step 4

In a pot, combine the cubed potatoes, 500ml of water, the prepared spicy tuna, 1 tablespoon of minced garlic, and 2 tablespoons of red pepper flakes. Bring this mixture to a boil over high heat.

Step 5

Once the stew comes to a rolling boil, add the diced onion. Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 5 to 10 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the broth has slightly thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 6

Finally, add 1 tablespoon of salted fermented shrimp (saeu-jeot) to season the stew. Using saeu-jeot adds a wonderful savory depth. Taste and add more if needed to reach your desired saltiness. Enjoy your delicious and heartwarming Spicy Tuna and Potato Stew!
